London, UK (BANG) - Britain's Prince Charles wants grey squirrels exterminated.
The future king - a keen environmentalist - has claimed it is essential to eliminate the animal, introduced from North America in the 19th century, because of the threat they pose to native red squirrels.

Shame on him. We have both gray squirrels and red squirrels in our yard. We feed them the year around. My grey squirrels have black faces and black on their belly. We love them all. They can't help what color they are. I have seen documentaries which showed that they greys were becoming too dominant. As to Charles, isn't he a fox hunter and a deer slayer too.

Rep to ya. I agree with you. He has too much time on his hands if he's worried about the squirrels IMO.
I'm no fan of Charles but he's right in that the red squirrels are being wiped out by the imported grey ones, as are native water species by American crayfish.
Man buggered it up in the first place so why shouldn't he try to recify the situation?

The same applies to hedgehogs in the Western Isles.
Grey squirrels are not a native species and pose a significant threat to the red's survival. They are open season, because of they're overpopulation it's either they're numbers are controlled or bye bye to our native reds.
They spread disease and they are reeking havoc in our woodland.
