Hello! I have decided to temporarily move to Oxford starting this upcoming January to attend one of the local Universities! Any advice for someone young and new to the area? Where is the best place for a student to live?

1st Question: Which University are you attending? There are 2: Oxford Brookes Uni and THE Oxford Uni.
2nd Question: Have you looked into getting accommodation at the Uni itself before investigating the living-out possibilities

Students live all over Oxford! There are literally 100s of shared houses owned either by a local landlord or by someone's fond parent who decided to buy a house for their student child as an "investment" and is renting out the other rooms to help pay the mortgage. A great many live in the Cowley area which is an older neighbourhood, but if you're attending one of the colleges that make up THE Uni, that may be too far away for you. Your best bet is to visit the city well in advance and start exploring. You should be able to get a list of rooms/or flats available via the Student Housing office at your college or just looking in the local papers. Bear in mind, a lot of students will have got their accommodation in September and won't be moving in January due to the miserable weather, so availability may be limited.

Oxford is a great place to be a student. I studied there for 4 years and loved it. You can't throw a brick without hitting at least 5 pubs and whilst the city centre is a nightmare for traffic and crowds, especially in the Summer or weekend, once you get to know the area you should find a lot of really fun things to see and do. It all depends on your preferences. There are excellent museums, several theatres and cinemas, plenty of shopping and it's very central for getting out and exploring the surrounding countryside or visiting places like London, Bristol, the Midlands, etc.
