I mean the urban decay thread is cool and all, but I'd be curious to see similar for urban revitilization.

I couldn't find any here searching, but perhaps others have better CD search skills, or remember some old thread that didnt come up for some reason.

So like neighbourhoods that previously had problems (crime, poverty, abandonnement) and are improving?

I have posted Google Street View shots of a few projects I wanted to talk about in other threads, but the idea of a thread just for street views of projects we like or wanted to talk about is worthy...post some of your own and I'll do the same!

okay, lets see if this works

Since Im in NoVa, we will start with ground zero for urban revitalization around here - King Street in Old Town Alexandria, right by the torpedo factory.

This old USN munitions facility was turned into an arts space in 1974, leading to transformation of at least this corner of Old Town in the late 70s, which then spread north and west in the 1980s.

The arrival of metro in 1983 led to the rapid spread of transformation towards the south west corner of old town, in the mid to late 80s and the construction of offices near the metro stations. The blocks in between the metro area and the waterfront continued to develop through the 90s.

when in googles maps there is an icon for the specific google map screen shot that looks like an infinity symbol. Copy that link

Bright Street, Corktown neighbourhood of Toronto. It's fairly middle class now, but it and the areas to the North (which were destroyed to build a large housing project) were pretty much a slum at one point.

You can get an idea of what it used to look like here:
Corktown, Toronto historic photos

Does growth in areas that previously were mostly industrial/parking lots count as reviltalization?
