I predict Mexico is going to end up becoming annexed by the U.S. Exactly how that will happen is a good question, but my guess is it won't be a happy story or a moment in history we will be proud of. About ten years after this happens, the giant city of LosSanDiAngeles will spread south and swallow up Tijuana.

Something that is very ordinary in the midwest will become incredibly valuable. Probably some mineral in the dirt that seems useless right now. The midwest region will boom.

The current problems with water consumption will cause scientists to discover a way to evaporate human waste (thus eliminating the need to go to the bathroom). At the same time, people will be able to simply evalporate body odors without needing to shower. As a result bathing will no long be a private function, but more of a social event. Building and eventually city design will be affected when dwelling units no longer require bathrooms.

"True, but there's no denying that this is overall a more hostile world we are living in compared with generations past."

Yes, I agree. It is a sad combination to too many people who are greedy, too many people who are power hungry, and too many people who are gullible. I don't see the first two things changing in 50 years (or ever) but I really HOPE the American people can learn to be less gullible.

There are so many things that bother me about the Iraq war but the one that really gets me is that so many people were willing to start a war just because our leader said "everybody knows" there are weapons of mass destruction. And that was all it took--we no longer demand evidence, we don't give the benefit of the doubt, we don't consider the lgoic of alternate possibilities.

We've become a nation of sheep because our schools are focused on test results. That means we are now teaching young people WHAT to think instead of HOW to think. No Child Left Behind was well-intentioned but the end result that I am observing is a shocking rise in gullibility.

All a salesman had to do to sell a subprime mortgage, apparently, was to say "EVERYONE KNOWS you'll make a profit buying a house for no money down" and that was all that was needed to fool people, despite the fact that there were abundant warnings in journals, newspapers, (and even on the news). America has become a dumber society because we've stopped reading... and also because the things that we ARE reading are generic publications like "USA Today" and "People Magazine."

Because I am an optimist, I predict this will change. It HAS to change. But it will only change when each one of us insists upon it.

Mexico annexed by the US? No, if anything, Mexico will annex Southern California. It hasn't done it physically yet, but you know what I mean.

Oh, yes, and I suppose the whole Earth will be perfectly safe. EVERY corner of the globe has a natural disaster waiting to happen. And quite frankly, I don't care. I'm not going to worry about it.

I just came back from 2057. Everything is hunky-dory.

There are no more cars. Everyone rides around in flying carpets made in China (some things never change). No parking problem: when you get to your destination, you just roll up your carpet and stuff it in your back-pack. There seems to be some carpet-envy among classes, though.

Airplanes are gone too. Replaced by my son's invention: the Teleporter. They finally fixed the lost luggage problem - no luggages allowed. Some people arrive without an arm or a leg, though. They're working on it. The patch will be released in Windows Service Pack 3 billion.

The land bridges have reappeared, thanks to the so called global warming (who'da thunk that?!). Much more land all over the world now. New countries, that used to all be under ice. We're running out of flags to plant on these new land masses to declare it ours.

Hawaii is the largest state in the USACM (United States of America, Canada & Mexico). The freaking volcanoes haven't stopped spewing lava and the land mass kept on growing. The Japanese are complaining from all the smoke and volcanic ash. Halliburton is figuring out a way to plug the freakin' things.

The rat overpopulation is gone. They're being eaten by cockroaches and mosquitos the size of cats. The animal activists are demanding more powerful guns to kill off the cockroaches and mosquitos to protect the endangered rats.

Food taste like chicken. You can order any size, shape or color of the "miracle meat". It still tastes like chicken. There's even chicken-flavored ice cream?!

I could go on and on. But overall, everything is great!

PS. mpope409 is right. john_starks : you're still alive. Err,... kind of alive. Through some fantastic scientific medical breakthrough, the government is keeping you "alive" until they can sort out the paperwork.

Basically, you had some inconsistencies in your will. The liars (i.e. lawyers - yes, they've finally corrected the spelling.) can't figure it all out. And the blood-sucking politicians (told you some things never change) got in on the act. So basically, you are still.... "alive".... all your five senses work, ... you can feel pain, the danged itchiness, hunger, etc... but can't do squat about it - you can't move an inch.

Correction: you CAN move your eyeballs. Up for "yes", down for "no". Side-to-side for "What the !@#$%^& !" .... which you seem to be doing a lot lately.

By the way, the winning lottery numbers for 50 gajillion turkish dollars are: ...........

I just don't see how the world is more hostile, than generations past. We have currently lost, what 3000 troops in Iraq, that was an average day in WW1. Also, most of the boomers lived through the cold war in fear of being nuked. Also, hasn't crime been going down?

I am only 16, but I very much disagree that the world is more hostile. The future seems very exciting to me. I think we will eventually be competing with India and China economically. I don't see many wars in the future.
