I saw this video posted in D Magazine's Street/Smart blog. I know first hand how bad inner-city highways can be. Right now in Dallas there is a lot of momentum to tear down the elevated highway I-345 which separates DT Dallas from the Deep Ellum neighborhood. There is also a big fight taking place in Dallas to block a proposed tollway going in the Trinity River adjacent to Downtown Dallas, which would ruin future plans to turn the river area into a park.

Michael Dukakis seems to have an excellent understanding of this issue:

The joke going around Boston was his speech alone depressed the highway several feet.
