But of course you'd rather the federal government flush a couple hundred billion taxpayer dollars down the toilet building a worthless wall that would do absolutely nothing to stop illegal immigration and can be defeated with a $10 shovel, or ladder.
No, it's you that want to build a wall along both the Mexican and Canadian borders AND have sharks with lasers patrolling the oceans.

We're playing the stupid strawman game I assume, it's the only explanation for your post.

Not a strawman. It's common knowledge Senor Orange wants to build (an incredibly expensive yet utterly useless) border wall, one of his major priorities that he is constantly talking about and endlessly pushing for the past couple of years. That's just a fact.

Where else can you see HSR thrive?

I would also include Florida, CAHSR branches to Vegas, Phoenix/Tucson, and connections between Phoenix and Vegas, and maybe SLC.

Also, a Midwest/rustbelt network of Chicago-Twin Cities, Chicago-Indianapolis/St. Louis Wye, Indianapolis-Columbus-Pittsburgh-Philly, with a spur to Cincinnati, Chicago-Buffalo-Boston with spurs to Detroit, Toronto, and Pittsburgh, and NYC-Montreal. Also, some sort of Southeastern network (Raleigh-Charlotte-Atlanta-Birmingham) would work.

Essentially all the routes that President Obama suggested back in 2009-2010?

The Soviet Union built a wall that was very effective in keeping their desperate people from escaping.

Hire a few old Russian hardliners to design the same wall to keep Mexicans out.

That Soviet wall wasn't breached with.........."a $10 shovel ,or ladder "...

In most places it was a high wooden barbed wire fence that was heavily patrolled by military personnel similar to a fence in a prisoner of war camp. It was not militarized to the level of the North Korea - South Korea border though . A US - Mexican wall would be a waste of resources that could used on infrastructure projects in the US such as rapid mass transit commuter transportation which is a joke in the USA compared to Europe and Asia. E-Verify would be a more cost effective way in controlling illegal immigration than a long costly wall as it would eliminate economic opportunities for illegals which is one of the primary motivations for coming to the US. I don't see E-verify happening especially considering the makeup of Trump's Wall Street dominated cabinet because cheap labor is good for Wall Street profits and the Stock Market in which the success of particularly the "Stock Market" Trump has married his Presidency to.

Why is this a federal issue? State rail, state funding. We keep hearing about how CAs economy is the 8th largest in the world. Can't they raise rates on the existing rail systems to fund the upgrades?
