I had WAY too much free time on my hands today and found myself on Wikipedia researching Dancing with the Stars. I noticed that at least four of the US-born professional dancers that have been on the show are Mormon. Is this just a random coincidence, or is there some weird propensity for LDS kids to get involved with ballroom dancing?

I kinda looked at & wondered that too. & I'm not LDS. I watched the dance show where Lacey & Chelsie came from, & read both are LDS. I also knew the Hough siblings are & are, like Chelsie, from Utah as well. A friend of mine used to babysit the Hough's when they were younger (I feel old lol) . I love it. &, So You Think You Can Dance comes to Utah almost every year now. =)

While living in Ohio, we visited hubby's grandparents in Ark. We watched the news & kinda teased how they followed & took pride in anyone in the state in the news, as Ohio has 3 bigger metro areas (the 3 C's) , & 4 smaller, but still bigger than most in less populated states, where I'm from, Akron/Canton area, Toledo area, Dayton/Springfield area, & the Youngstown/Warren area. lol All have their own news stations, & Ark, was, one area, Little Rock & the rest. I now find myself pulling for anyone from Utah, unlike in Ohio, where it was more NE Ohio love. lol Yeah, weird, & random, just my thoughts tonight.

Not sure if you are aware of the *really huge* dance programmes, BYU has on their repertoire.
My son attended BYU, and since all of our kids went thru the *Cotillion* project in California, he decided to join the Ball-Room team.
Danced with them for about two years and then changed to the *Folk Dance* group. Danced with them about 4 years. Went to many countries with them.

I asked him, when he planned on graduating, and he mentioned that he liked the Dance Groups, so he decided to get his Bachelor's AND Master's at the end of his tenure. He did what he promised us to do.
Some *well to do* families in the SLC area give out scholarships to outstanding students on the Dance team. So we did not have to *pay* for his last two years ....

There is also that big group called the Young Ambassadors. Also all LDS.
They also travel worldwide.

If you would like to see these groups perform, keep track of the Folk Dance group. They have an incredibly good show around Christmas, called *Christmas around the world*. Really worth seeing !!!
Sometimes, they have a programme on TV (old shows)

Are you also aware that the BYU Ballroom Dance groups often win International Competitions ?

It would not surprise me if those LDS Dancers you are talking about did attend BYU and danced with their dance groups.

LBNL, if you are a bit on the *older* end of the age groups and are LDS, you might remember the Talent shows, called *Road Show* the Stakes put up where they have huge dance groups. Uhuh, Road Show, but they really did not take the shows *on the road* !!! It was a lot of work, but great fun !!

Unlike some other religion groups where *Sing and Dance* is part of the Sunday worship, the LDS Community does not have any Sing and Dance during Sunday worship, but there is huge activity on other days. Wonder why that is not so much stressed anymore today ? Sing and Dance ... , we miss it. Any *old* LDS members remember the Gold and Green Ball ???
Uhmmm ... we do sing at Sunday Worship services, but only *Hymns*, no *Songs*, and absolutely no swaying ...
My very personal opinion is that I love to listen to those *Gospel Songs*. Makes me feel happy ...

So ... , to answer the OP's question if it was *weird* ???
<<<is there some weird propensity for LDS kids to get involved with ballroom dancing?>>>
Nope, just something some of us light-footed people love to do !
And I think, we are dang good at it !!!
Uhmmm ... maybe yes *weird* because we are often classified as *weird religious people*
