I'm reaching out because I don't know where to start or turn. Maybe someone here can steer me in the right direction.

About 7 or 8 months ago, an in-laws teenage son suddenly passed away. She found him laying in bed cold and blue and unresponsive. She was in a highly toxic and abusive relationship. The man she was married to and all were living together was not the childs biological father. That alone has suspect and trouble written all over it.

The initial autopsy was inconclusive. Might have been an accidental OD on something. Might've been poisoned. We just don't know. Nothing has been ruled out.

She's stymied and desperate looking for answers. Apparently repeated inquiries to the coroners office and she's getting the runaround and no one seems able or willing to help. As far as I know, two autopsies have been done and there are no known answers. Cause of death is still "unknown".

So she's reached out to me through her cousin-my soon to be wife-for assistance.

Here's the thing. Because I have no legal or blood ties to the deceased child or his mother, I doubt anyone will give me any information freely. And I get that.
So with all of that said: What can myself or her do to get some answers?

Who to contact? Where to go? What questions to ask?

The aggrieved woman is desperate and needs and deserves closure and answers.

Any help would be most appreciated.

She lived in a suburb of Salt Lake City. I don't recall the actual town at the moment. I want to say Midvale, or somewhere in that area. But I'm not positive.

Thank you in advance.

Since you said it was a personal opinion, then keep it personal instead of sharing it with the rest of us ...
If you would have left this out, your question would have been just as effective ...

Even as his mother, SHE can't seem to get any answers. It's that he's a teenage son. He's dead and that's that. The State Of Utah seems to have washed their hands of it. And I can't help but

I don’t think it’s something you can GRAMA (open records request).

I think your question to ask is, “Is there an open investigation?” If there is, that is why they aren’t releasing it. If there isn’t then you ask for them to cite the County rule or statute they are using to not release it to you. Once you pin them down to a rule or a law, you can argue the rule or law.
