My husband and I (early 30's) and our soon to be baby are considering a move to Provo and would like honest opinions about whether or not our lifestyle and views would fit in with the area. The closest family to us would be located in San Diego. We are non-religious with liberal political leanings. We enjoy outdoor activities such as skiing, cycling, kayaking, etc. Has anyone else made a similar move, or does anyone currently living in Provo have any thoughts on the subject? Would we be the odd ones out with our political and religious views? Would it be difficult to find community activities or groups we can participate in? Thanks so much for any advice you have to offer, it's much appreciated!

It's job related... good opportunity in Provo.

Personally, I would find out how close the Trax or Frontrunner (the trains) is to the job location.
Is it walk-able ?
If yes, then I would make a sincere effort to live somewhere else in Salt Lake County.

If not ...

If you are not religious, specifically LDS religious, I really don't think you want to live in Provo, Maybe SLC, I have to commute down to Provo sometimes and heading south from SLC in the morning is not bad. The traffic here is not bad at all. If you are a non-religious liberal, seriously, do not move to Provo.

You will hate it. Most LDS folks on here don't want to live there. It can be stifling.

Salt Lake County is much better for what you are looking for. The further north you get in SL County the more liberal it gets.

Do yourself a huge favor and don't seriously consider moving to either Provo or Utah County.

You stated you weren't LDS and have liberal political leanings (so do I).

You can live north of Provo in Salt Lake County and you will have a much better experience and will think more highly of Utah as a state if you follow our advice.

We frequently get this very question on this forum. I gather the Provo/Utah County area is economically somewhat prosperous and some jobs are available down there. So, about every month or two someone asks a very similar question. You are getting the same advice that we give everyone else who asks.

Some time ago, while discussing new technical stuff being made right here in Utah, I posed the question of *Why is Provo so popular?*.
One of the people who was in the group, who is also an entrepreneur in the Provo Area, said:
*When you need part time workers, the best place is Provo because of the Universities close by.
Cheap, hard workers.*

Makes sense to me ... , since we did almost the same thing 25 years ago.
We decided to move (from California) to Spanish Fork, for the same reasons.

The bottom line is always the availability of people and what they want to work for !
We never had a *need* to look for *workers*.
They came by word of mouth !
