Recently moved into a shared housing situation, three people including me. Trash comes every other Tuesday, I've never lived anywhere where it came so infrequently and the three of us generate too much trash to go that long. What's a reasonable price for a service that comes and hauls trash away? Also thinking about just making weekly runs to the dump and paying to dispose of it.

You can schedule weekly pickup and more containers with Waste Connections...just cost more money. Whoever set it up got the cheapest plan

Landlord is out of town and can't reach him, but I probably will set something up. I went to the city web site and it looks like our whole street just gets the every other Tuesday pickup from the city. I don't generate very much trash but the current roommate really does, and when we get a 3rd person it will be unmanageable with 14 days between pickups.

That was my biggest culture shock after moving here. Used to being able to mound up an unlimited amount of junk next to the bins and they take it all. Here they fine you if it's too heavy or doesn't fit in the can with the lid closed.

We've got the basic one small can weekly plan here and with two of us there are a few times a year we have to hit the transfer station to drop off extra.

But you can buy service for multiple cans and even on up to a mini-dumpster service.

At least it's not quite Portlandia with a dozen different recycling containers to sort things into.

Ha, yeah that's how I remember Chicago. As long as you weren't completely ridiculous and got stuff bagged and not leaking, etc. they would pick up pretty much any number of bags.

I talked with the roommate about focusing on not generating as much garbage, so with occasional runs to get rid of extra it should be fine. That's of course assuming the third roommate, whoever s/he is, doesn't add an unusual amount.
