Do most people in Vancouver (more importantly do you) use an umbrella or rely on a waterproof jacket with a hood? And why did you make your choice?
Depends on what I'm doing. If I'm just running from the parking lot into a store I don't bother with umbrella or waterproof clothing.
If I'm out for a casual stroll in light rain I use an umbrella but I don't bother with raingear. If I'm out walking and it's raining really hard I'll wear a full ankle length raincoat along with the umbrella.
I'm more into walking and taking photographs, not into running, biking, skiing and hiking in the rain but if I was I would never carry an umbrella. I'd just wear good raingear and an all-round wide brimmed water-proof hat, never a hoody.
When I'm in BC I love to walk around and hike a lot. When it rains it does not stop me for a minute. I wear one of those long oilskin canvas coats and a cowboy hat. I walked around Tofino for 3 days last January in the rain and never got one little bit wet.
PS, Waterproof foot wear is also a must.
Hood is the better option. We can carry them even at the time of driving Bike.
