Was talking to a friend who is also Chinese Canadian white washed and we talk about how the Chinese culture emphasizes a lot on just making money. Not just having a job and making money but lots of money. Growing up in western society we were told to do a profession if you like it and have a passion for it. In Chinese society we were told to get into a profession to make a lot of money
I was wondering is this also with the japanese culture too.
How about Korean is it same too
From what I know about Chinese culture (which is admittedly not very much), they do not have the hang-ups about money that we Westerners do. Yes, there have been very many greedy Westerners, but this was traditionally tempered by our Christian tradition, which emphasizes detachment from material goods. Granted, some Chinese also have a Buddhist heritage which seems to teach the same thing. However, if you look at modern Western culture, "materialism" and "consumerism" have a bad name, while there seems to be no similar disparagement in Chinese culture, although I may be wrong.
Survival to simply put it, is separate from religion in terms of Chinese culture, at least from my experience.
