How's the cost of living on Vancouver Island? (taxes, to move)

I might not be living there anytime soon, depends on circumstances. Some guy I just talked to was from Vancouver Island and said how great it was living there and soo forth. He mentioned if you want to live in Canada, Vancouver Island will be the best place to move there because of the weather. So, just want to know about how the cost of living like there and also, if you want...could you please give me some intels about Vancouver and or the Islands, like the people, weather in summer and winter, taxes (food, state, misc) and soo forth. I've heard that it's a little less than it is on the mainland but couldn't say for sure as I don't live on the island. However, if you type in 'Vancouver Island' in the search box there have been plenty of other topics posted about Vancouver Island so you might find some answers that way.
