The system in Canada goes this way...... See your MD, have him/her diagnose the condition, and if surgery is required, a letter of referral will be sent to a qualified surgeon, by the MD. An appointment with the specialist will follow, and upon examination and consultation, a surgery may be scheduled.
If the operation is medically necessary , it will be covered under the BC health care plan. This assumes that you are a legal Resident in Canada, and have BC health coverage.
