It was part of an art installation.

Popping bubble wrap is a source of satisfaction for many people. For a man in Canada, however, it may be the source of legal troubles. Police in Vancouver are asking for tips from the public as they work to track down the unidentified man shown in a video damaging a piece of art at the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Vancouver Sun reports.

For some life is all about making social media posts, like this kid did. No regard for anyone else.

I hope they find him and have him pay the damages.

I did a google search to find pictures of the damaged artwork in question.
Is this what they consider to be "art" nowadays?
Quite tacky and uninspiring, I would not pay money to see that if I'm being perfectly honest.

People go to art galleries so they can see everything in there on display. They all have to pay money to get into the galleries. If there's a particular thing on display that some people don't like they can pass it by and forget about it, but they still all have to pay money to get in to see everything on display.

Whether or not the bubble wrap art piece was appealing to you as a work of art is irrelevant and unimportant. Beauty and inspiration is in the eye of the artist and in the eyes of each beholder. What one person likes another person might dislike but neither one of the beholders is wrong and the artist isn't wrong either. The person who defaces or destroys a display is the one who is wrong.

.

Of course there's always going to be subjectivity in regards to art but not all works of art are equal.
