Just heard El Toritos is closing. It seems we cannot keep restaurants here in Simi Valley. We have two favorites: Don Cuco's and Market Broiler. We've tried every other one in town and drew a line through them.

A few which come to mind right away that we will not return to are Larsen's, Beto's, Barton's, Romano's Macaroni Grill (good food, but always terrible service), Chi-Chi's.

The type of restaurants which survive in Simi, like Junkyard Cafe make me gag.

Eggs-N-Things has been going downhill. Seems like high kitchen turnover. Hit or miss depending when you go.

Red's has a good concept, but poor execution and is way overpriced.

Saw a new restaurant in a storefront by the DIY Center and Big Lots, called M&B Steak & Seafood, but the prices seem outrageous for a storefront place in Simi.

Am I missing any good restaurants in Simi? I doubt it.

Can you recommend any good places in the Conejo Valley?

I can't recommend anything, but I must say, Simi is a beautiful place. Every time I go up there I'm blown away by the natural scenery and safety.

I hope you find some good options.

Have a great weekend.

Simi is known for cops and firemen, their "stepford" wives, and green yards with picket fences. So, should it really be shocking that there isn't anything beyond bland chain restaurants?

If you want good food, then leave your bubble and come over the hill to the San Fernando Valley, or go over to Oxnard and Port Hueneme!

Just moved away from Simi Valley, besides the hot weather, bland food was my main complaint! Always had to go to Ventura or the Valley for Asian, Indian, or good Mexican.

Favorite Asian was Bamboo Cafe, great Boba and Vietnamese cuisine. Tio's cafe is pretty good Mexican-fusion breakfast brunch. Also liked Disgustingly Delicious in Moorpark, cute breakfast cafe. But other than that, we did a lot of cooking at home with ingredients we had to go to the Valley for because Simi grocery stores don't have much variety.

Sesame Inn in Newbury Park was our favorite Chinese food. Chesters Chinese in Camarillo was good too.

Can't really recommend many "American" or Italian places since I don't particularly care for it, but Bartons which was on your list would probably be it for Simi.
