One of the beauties of living in Ventura County is the vast access to just about every kind of lifestyle. One can live in a large community, enjoy the beach, head for the mountains, be near cultural activities, see nature, and view the many aggricultural areas within the county.

Included in this is schools, hospitals, and other public services. One amazing place that many of us end up passing on our way up or down the 126 within the Heritage Valley is the Santa Clara Elementary School District, a one school district located between Santa Paula and Fillmore just off the 126. It is amazing in this day and age to see a one room school. Truth be told the district added a couple of modulars to make it a 3 room school. Still the structure still is there of the building that was built in 1896. It is actually the second building. In 1879 an original building was placed in the area. The 1896 building replaced that smaller building.

Default Nostalgia

I remember that little schoolhouse, growing up in Ventura County. My father use to take our family for monthly drives through Santa Paula/Fillmore/Ojai area back in the 1960s-1970s. Thanks for bringing back those memories.

You know as long as I lived in CA and as many times as we made the trip up the coast, or traveled from Los Angeles to the bay area (before hwy 5) I don't think we ever stopped in that area. We did do Solvang: everyone should, and we did lots of other site seeing, but not what you are sharing. Thanks, for sharing it with us. I would love to see the "Little Red Schoolhouse"
