Hi all,

I'm a 24 yo grad moving to Lompoc in the next few weeks. I got a job in Santa Barber paying 65k a year (my first "real" job) and excited for the opportunity. Ideally I'd like a small house for me my dog. Through minimum research I've noticed that Lompoc is cheaper than most other SB areas. I don't mind a longer commute as long as I'm getting a bang for my buck. Location doesn't matter as much as paying under 2k in rent. Any advice would ne helpful!

My opinion, for what its worth.. We were just in Lompoc a couple months ago. I am not sure it would be a very fun place for someone your age. Yes, the beach is right there, but we got there about 8pm and it seemed like the city had locked up for the night. We were looking for someplace to eat, and other than some fast food places, there wasn't much. We looked on yelp and found a few places, but when we drove by they didnt look too appealing. Anyway, We headed back over to the Solvang area.

I dont know for sure, but I would bet that there would be people who work at Vandenburg, or maybe at the prison living there. It may be cheaper than Santa Barbara, but you're young and single! My son and his fiance (your age) were with us and they were not impressed with the place (yes, we only drove through - but it looked dead everywhere - and we were right in the middle of town where you'd think there would be stuff going on).

Santa Barbara is a fun area, but probably out of your price range. Maybe Goleta, or even Carpinteria? Those areas may be a little better priced.

Distance from Santa Barbara to Lompoc is kind of far, too - its about an hour (without traffic). Not sure how the rush hour is. I'd seriously try to find something closer, so you can enjoy life outside of work.

Why not rent an Air Bnb in Lompoc for a few days prior to deciding and see if you like it there. Maybe you'll love it! But that way you haven't committed to anything more than a few days

So did you end up living in Lompoc?

We lived in Arroyo Grande, currently in LA, looking to go back. How has your transition been? And the commute?
