I realize this strays off topic, but I'd very much appreciate a reply if you have time. My husband and I moved from Pennsylvania, which we loved, ten years ago. We'd love to move back within the next five years or so and are wondering what has made it "hell on earth" for you and what area of Pa you're in. Thanks.

Well folks I have been in Bellows falls a week now and I have already decided that it will be "one and done" for my family and I and we will leave next year when our contract is up. Everything negative that other people who have commented on here about Bellows Falls, I have discovered to be true. I do have to say that it is a shame because everyone I have met so far here have been so nice. It also doesn't help that the job that I moved here for has also turned out to be nothing I was promised so I am back in the market for a job as well. Regardless of my feelings to my situation, I still wouldn't change the path I took to get here because I am back in the greatest part of America, New England............besides, I think it will make looking for a new job slightly easier being in New England than searching from hundreds and hundreds of miles away as I did for nearly 2 years!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all your comments folks

Sorry to hear it isn't working out. Unfortunately, I think the negatives of BF outweigh the positives... like so many small New England towns where industry has packed up and gone away.

Believe me, despite the negatives, I am very grateful to be back in New England where I have always wanted to be. Bellows Falls and the job are just stepping stones to something better...........I'm sure that had I not accepted this job that I would still be stuck in PA struggling to find a job in New England from afar.......so as I said before, I am very grateful to be back in any capacity for right now

One nice thing about Bellows Falls is that it is 2 exits on I-91 from Brattleboro. BF is at Exit 5. Brattleboro uses exits 1, 2 and 3.

Also, check out the Indian Petroglyphs just downriver of the Vilas Bridge, on the Vermont side of the river. The stones should be marked with yellow paint. I believe there are two of them. You can see them with the naked eye, but if you use biniculars, you'll get a better view.

Does Bellows Falls still have the steam train? I remember taking it once in the fall. It was really a beautiful trip (Although I can't remember where it went. I guess we just took it and then turned around as a way to see the fall foliage.)

I will have to check that out because all I have been doing is unpacking and working and haven't had too much time to explore...if it still exists, I am sure my kids would love to do it.

Steamtown moved to PA when I was a child back in the late 70s/early80s (irony! lol), but there is the Green Mountain Flyer:

Green Mountain Railroad - Trains Around Vermont

There's also Santa's Land in Putney and Bromley with its Alpine Slide and so on isn't too far away.

Celebrating The Magic Of Christmas All Year Long!

Bromley Sun Mountain Adventure Park :: Vermont's largest family amusement park (alpine slide, water slide, zip rider)

Am sorry you've found the negatives to be true, but love your attitude. I hope the year will pass with some good memories for your family and you'll land a better position.

Green Mountain Railroad - Trains Around Vermont
Green Mountain RR has scenic train rides which go up to Chester Depot and back. There's about a 30 min stop in Chester Depot while the engine is moved for the trip back to BF. When we have friends visit, we usually take them on the train ride. We'll dart over to Lisai's in CD to grab sandwiches or a snack to take on the train for the ride back.

They run specialty rides -- such as the Santa Express Thanksgiving weekend. That one sells out quickly.
