Finally have a job where I can work remotely and thinking about moving to the country, but need high speed internet (at least DSL). Is DSL available along most paved roads, or is it limited to major towns? Been reading about various rural internet initiatives, but can't tell if that will really reach all areas in the count or just population centers.

Thanks

I cannot answer your question, but I think I can point you to a place that may have some answers.

Check with MGW Communications. I think they cover part of Highland & Bath Counties.

You may want to speak with the Highland Telephone Cooperative:

DSL depends on the phone number. I used to have Verizon DSL and they had to check the phone number to see if the area had coverage. Also check Comcast, they have the internet through the cable line thing, so if you can get cable you can get internet.

I forgot Ntelos, they offer high-speed internet also. A lot will depend on where the house is as to what you can get.
