Hey all my fellow VA folks.....

I currently live in Lorton,VA (between Woodbridge and Alexandria, VA.) and I am loving this D.C. metro area. However, my husband may be getting a job down in Norfolk. And I am now trying to gather as much info about it as possible. What neighborhoods should one look to live in??? I for an example, am very much in love with Potomac Club and Belmont Bay(two fairly new subdivisions in Woodbridge) that are mainly town homes with walking distance to shopping and dining. Is there anything similar in norfolk??? Also, I love city life style yet I love country side. Lorton,Va. has best of both worlds, we are close to city without being in the smack middle of the city and still have the nice calm pace of country with lots of nature in our surrounding. Is something like that to be found in Norfolk???? And what about schools??? Which are the better school districts??? Looking for something comparable with fairfax county school district.
Also, where are the family areas located at??? With two daughters, (2 and 5 Years old) I love to be in a place surrounded by other families with children to play with.
Thanks again you guys.....

Why don't you post this in the Hampton Roads sub-forum. You will likely get some pretty quick responses. What I have gathered on this board is that many folks with kids who work in Norfolk opt to live in Virginia Beach as it has better schools.

Good luck!

If you think Lorton is close to the city, yeah, you'll be fine in Norfolk. You sound like Chesapeake / Suffolk

Lorton is close in my opinion. It's only 10 minutes from D.C. by car, I think that is close enough. Don't need to be any closer.
