Hi,
My husband, myself and our five month old son are pcsing to Norfolk, Virginia in two months. Researching areas to live in is doing our heads in. We are Navy and know housing is at least a year long wait so we are looking at renting.

Good sized apartments are our focus point at the moment within a nice area (nice being safe and some local amenities to do things with our son).

What we are wanting to know is of the "good" areas to live in which are preferably closer to the Norfolk Navy Base. I hear traffic is terrible and that there are plenty of bad areas.
Looking for somewhere that's also close enough to shopping, Naval base and communal activities such as parks, playgrounds etc.

Input would be much appreciated.

Jaq

Jaq, you will probably receive way more help if you post this question under the subforum of Hampton Roads area.

Good luck.

Are you on FB? If so, do a search for the installation and like their page. Then do some research to see what other pages they like. I maintain the FB page for the Fort Lee Area Spouses' Club and we gets lots of questions from incoming spouses that our members and fans are able to help with. Also look for other pages geared to the Navy. For instance in the Army, a lot of folks will head over to The Army Wife page. Pages like that, but geared to the Navy, will probably be one of the best resources out there for you.

Best of luck with your PCS and a big thank you to to you and your husband for serving our country!
