Hi,

We are looking to relocate to Virginia (Richmond area possibly) and I was wondering if the area is gun friendly? I am moving up from Florida where guns are in our nature. Almost everyone conceal carries proudly and support the NRA and such. Although I am originally from NYC (The Nazi State lol) I have grown customed to carrying my pistol and would feel naked without it really. Do residents carry? Is it OK to be proud of our second ammendment right in VA? Just wondering .... Thanks for any input!

Yes. Come on home. When you get here, go to Green Top. There is a shooting range on southside and another on the west end. We are very fond of our second amendment.

Most certainly. You do need a conceal carry permit but they are easy to obtain. You cannot be refused without reason such as a domestic violation charge, felony etc. Open carry is legal although very few actually do this. I'm retired LE and I'm not even comfortable carrying open. Carrying open in a vehicle is legal and you can conceal it in a vehicle as long as it is not easily accessible.

Yep. One of the reasons I'm somewhat considering a move there.

Yep. Even the NRA is in one of the most liberal areas of VA. One of my reasons I'm considering a move to VA.

I think the entire state is gun friendly, even Northern VA!

You might want to review some of the local ordinances though:

The more pro-gun people that move here, the longer the state will stay pro-gun.

I'm from NY as well and find VA positively refreshing in its common-sense gun friendliness.
