NC and Virginia are quite a like since we are bordering states. I've lived in both states and though I currently live in NC, I left one foot in Virginia.

No idea why the OP is even asking as location says NJ - but WHO CARES? It's a venue, they were trying to be polite.

I'm from NC. I live in NJ now. I don't understand why this is so contentious for people.

South of Richmond might as well be North Carolina, those areas of Virginia aren't too different (Petersburg, South Hill, Farmville, South Boston, etc). Head north of Richmond or Charlottesville and it's probably more like Maryland, although Northern Virginia and the Research Triangle are pretty similar. Overall, I see Virginia as a slightly more sophisticated version of North Carolina, like our mature older cousin. We're a bit more redneck-ish and fun loving down here.
