I don't think the climate and natural environment in either NC and VA are as different from NJ as OP thinks.

We do pest control for general pest control. When we see a lot of rain we've seen this small pest come in a few times and crawl around. Like very small roaches but they are not roaches and they are very slow. They come for a day or two in a couple places then are gone. We are surrounded by farms, meaning cattle, and we see the standard house fly all around for a while. Between the PC company spraying outside and me supplementing it with a 4 gallon backpack sprayer I can easily keep them away. But I do PC more for peace of mind than the need to stop all kinds of pests. I spent a long career in a job that had me outside at nights and often in woods and places most people don't want to go so I am kind of impervious to all critters but not the wife.

Side note question? Why would you choose WNC over the coast?

I grew up as a kid in Fla. We were chased out numerous times due to hurricanes. Our daughter lives 25 miles from the coast in NC and they've been chased out numerous times due to hurricanes. One time entire neighborhoods around her saw major damage but they lucked out except for rotting meat/food smell when they got back and some mold. But that is only part of it. We love living in the mountains in VA and we live in what I feel is an absolutely beautiful area. (Shenandoah Valley). We've found folks to be more genuine here and finding the right church made this even better. We lose out on having more grocery store and restaurant choices but it's a trade off we are happy to accept. We can drive 45 minutes either way and be around more options if we desire. But we can sit out on the front porch or back porch and see this view whenever we desire. If I attach it right. This is the view off the back deck.

Wow, well I am certainly missing out! I have a sister in Ruckersville. Pretty view of the mntns behind them. They are moving closer to their jobs though. They are looking in “Spotsy”.
Was in the Lynchburg area a couple years back. Beautiful country. Torn between the mountains and the sea. Love saltwater fishing. But now I’m rambling.

Ruckersville to Spotsy. Wow. The traffic anywhere along I-95 from DC to Richmond is a deal killer for so many but being closer to the jobs is important I'm sure. Not a huge fan of Lynchburg as it has gotten too busy but love Bedford. As far as the ocean. The storms seem to be increasing and my daughter has even talked about bailing from the coastal area in NC. She's a govt employee so going elsewhere shouldn't be too difficult.

Way to fit the stereotype of a southern hick. Nice spelling by the way. And before you fix it.

Sorry brah, I'm the wrong color for that. A better idea would be for you to develop a sense of humor.
