Default Snow

Generally the higher elevations. The past few years there has been very little snow in the Roanoke area. If you drive about 2 hours north of here during the winter around Snowshoe, WV(Marlington WV) a foot of new snow is very common while in the valley there is none.

Us in Northern Virginia outside of DC get two or three big snowstorms a year. Usually it is a few inches.

Snow is not as regular in VA as it seemed to be when I was growing up in the 80's and 90's. Global warming?? For the past 10 years or so there haven't been too many big snows. Like mentioned, the higher in elevation the more snow. Richmond though in March had nearly a foot and here in Staunton we only got about 7 or 8 in. Staunton is higher in elevation, so it's really a crap shoot. The potential for big snow is here, but it doesn't hang around for too long. At least not anymore.

I agree. I live in Appalachia and we barely get a few inches of snow total! Granted, I live more on the plateau, but I remember when we used to get more snow.

Been in Winchester for two winters now and have been unimpressed up to this point.... In those two winters we've maybe gotten four measurable snowfalls and nothing over 3 inches it seems....

People around here say we're "due", but we'll see....

Some of my fondest childhood memories are of the blizzard of 1996. We got 22 inches in Roanoke that week. It was great. No school
