Hi! I'm moving to South Boston for my first job after college (w/ ABB, if you know where that is) and I'm having trouble finding anyplace that rents apartments. All I can find is houses for sale. I've just spent 6 years in Blacksburg, and was raised up in Falls Church, so I like Virginia. Could someone recommend any agencies/realtors? and a cat. (Neither is destructive, the cat is so chill you'd think I feed him magic brownies, and the dog is not a barker.) The dog is 35 pounds, so certainly not huge but somehow "large" by many apartment buildings' standards. If I could find a house to rent, I'd probably be willing to pay 700-800$/mo for it. (Not including pet fees, which I admit I'd pay just about anything they asked.)

You're kidding. Think of going down to Raleigh, or up to Richmond if you're looking for culture; unless you like racing, but, then, thats not really culture.
I grew up in Roanoke, and lived in Charlotte, NC before here ( long story, don't ask! ), and I really feel like I'm dying here. I hope you enjoy it more than I do.
I have family in Radford/Blacksburg/Roanoke areas, and it's like going on vacation when I go up there. Its not just things to do, its the small conveniences, the little things that I miss the most. The locals think I'm crazy for not liking it here. Most of them have never been 20 miles from home, except maybe Myrtle or Va. beach, so I guess I can't fault them. My advice, rent for a while and see if you like it. Good luck,
