Looking at possible property purchase in the 2100 block of Rivermont Avenue (Rivermont Historical District) in Lynchburg. Property backs up to the Riverside Park (separated by 6 foot privacy fence). If someone is familiar with this area and can give me an opinion on safety, crime, etc., I would appreciate it.

I wouldn't do it. I would stay west of Randolph-Macon College. Just my opinion.

I think thats a pretty safe area. It doesn't get really bad until you go past cabel st. (towards downtown). Seen plenty of thugs hangin around that area.

I think that area is fine and the area to the east is improving with lots of rehabbing going on. You can check the crime data on-line here

I live 2 blocks closer to downtown; been there for seven years and have loved it. I don't think I could have found a better opportunity than I did on Rivermont.

Things have not worked out like we had planned so no move yet. Good luck with the house you have in mind.

Default "Lower Rivermont"

I have lived in Rivermont since I was 3 years old. My wife and I bought and are living in a house on the downtown side of Cabell Street. Sure, we have more than our share of drug-uglies here, but most of the customers drive in from the "better" parts of town. After more than 4 years in this location, I've never felt uncomfortable or scared. Could it be better? Absolutely, and it is markedly better than it was ten years ago.
