Keyfob doesn't seem to unlock car anymore (unless you're holding it over the hood)

So, I'm guessing this has to do with the car itself? This is for my daily driver a 2006 vw Jetta 2.5. Recently I had my battery replaced (this morning actually). I noticed that my battery was dying because for the past 5 or so days the car wouldn't start without a jump. After either the first or second time jumping it I realized my keyfob wasn't really working all that well (occasionally I'd just have to use the key into the door lock). Most of the time the car would only respond when holding the key either RIGHT next to the drivers window or near the windshield over the hood of the car. I thought maybe it was the keyfob battery. So I replaced that with a new one but no, still barely responds to the unlock/lock functions. Is this something the dealer needs to fix?
Take a peek, is there something blocking the transmitter like dirt
Before the dealer, try a VW forum site
Under the hood you mean? I have no idea where the transmitter is even located...?
