On most FWD cars, it's easier to drop the whole subframe and pull it out from under the car.
Specifically for an 850 ... I dunno. I'm well versed with red blocks and RWDs, not white blocks and FWD. A search on TurboBricks.com or the BrickBoard may yield some better answers.
I dunno, but that 2 ton hoist will be fine IF the engine is designed to go up and out. That Vovlo is after my time. My time was when all Volvo was rear wheel drive.
At that time Saab was ft wheel drive and it came up and out..
At that time no engine tranny combo anyway you looked, weighed near a ton, so that isn't any fear at all since things basicly got lighter, and there isn't likely a cast iron block.
IF it is up and out after all, then you would un-do most every thing you can get in the engine compartment, then jack the vehical up and lower it to stands. Block the wheels at the rear so nothing moves.
Then un-do every thing from the bottom, un-do the axels and suspention to the axels, so they can be with drawn, and yank that engine up and out.
