I am receiving a Federal job offer and contemplating if I should accept or reject. I know that there is a substantial difference in the cost of living between the two areas. Luckily, this offer is quite a bit more than what I currently make, and feel that this would offset the difference in living. The job is presently located in Crystal City, but will soon be moving to the Mark Center in Alexandria. With That info I have a few questions:
1. Does anyone know what the areas of Washington Grove, Germantown, or Gaithersburg are like?
2. What should I expect to pay for a 1br apt in those area's?
3. Is there any public tranportation to the Mark Center from any of those locations, and what would the commute be like? I have been reading about all of the controversy about this site and the traffic debacle that it is going to create.

Any Infomation that anyone can provide is greatly appreciated?

To be honest, I would look in Manassas, or somewhere on the VRE if you will be working in Alexandria or Crystal City. The cross town commute, or MARC commute is atrocious from the Montgomery County cities you listed.

You can see a list of cities the VRE(Virginia's commuter train) goes to here:

On a side note, I also moved from Texas to DC from one VA Medical Center to another.
