My family is moving back to MD after 15 years because folks got a job in Lanham md.

They use to live in Gaithersburg about 15-20 years ago. My fam want above all else a "safe" place to live. schools are not a major concern as siblings are home schooled.

They want to stay away from Hyattsville because its a little too ghetto, and I guess PG in general?

Commute would Ideally be within 30 minutes from lanham, they would be looking to rent a 3 bedroom hopefully around $1800 for a year until they completely scope the area out.

They are moving from CA, close to Anaheim. They like the suburb/city feel, not keen on rural.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not all of PG is completely ghetto. N. PG is pretty decent. I would let our resident PG experts go into detail of what you'd want.

Hmm. Certain parts of Columbia, to the east. Over to the west, parts of Annapolis. I might suggest Severna Park, but it still feels a touch rural to me. Parts of Ellicott City maybe, just past it to the east there is a nice suburban area, but I forgot the name of it. For the price range, not rural, safe, near work, this is what I think. Others may have better or more specific ideas.

Whoops. Totally mixed up east and west! That should be Columbia to the West, and Annapolis to the East! LOL

I think I was thinking of the east part of Columbia, like River Hil.

Bowie, Laurel, Columbia, Crofton, or Silver Spring all could be good options. There's other options further up the BW Parkway too.
