Hello. I am looking to go recrational crabbing with chicken necks, string and a net sometime this summer in the Calvert County area. I haven't been crabbing in over a decade, but used to do it off the piers near the boat launches at Sandy Point. I have heard that there are similiar family-oriented places in Calvert County that offer the same piers/wharfs for catching crabs with this method. Some areas I have heard about are Breezy Point, Chesapeake Beach and North Beach.

Does anyone have any specific information regarding these locations for chicken neck crabbing - esp. with public piers/wharfs and any associated fees? I am aware of the state recreational crabbing laws and am looking to catch and release with the kids. I would prefer less crowded spots but not too rustic. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Info for North Beach. There is also fishing/crabbing in Solomon's, don't know about fees.

Do people crab off the North Beach pier? It was going to be what I recommended but I've only seen people with fishing poles there whenever I've hiked out there.

There is some crabbing, a few guys go in from the beach with dip nets. Most of the guys on the pier that crab use those little collapsible pots.
