According to a message posted on the Megabus website (dated 2/11), Megabus will start operating Washington-Philadelphia service on 3/21.
From my point of view, this is really excellent news, and not just because I travel between the two cities on a periodic basis (like yesterday for example). I've long thought there is a pretty decent market for bus service between the two cities, especially considering Amtrak is pretty expensive, but the existing Greyhound service takes too damn long because it makes too many intermediate stops (one or two stops in Baltimore and often one in Wilmington) and I don't want to use an unreliable Chinatown bus line. If the Megabus schedule is extensive enough to give me some options, I'd definitely use Megabus for at least some of my DC-Philly trips (or at least one half of the trip pair). I'm sure other people will use this route too.
I'm sure I'd use it. Megabus and Bolt Bus seem to be pretty popular for the DC to NYC trips. So I'm sure Philly will work out great too. I'd love to take some day trips there since I like to take advantage of living on the east coast where all of the cities are close to each other. Philly is also much more manageable for a day trip than NYC since it's about half the distance. Can't wait for it to start!
Megabus recently announced it would be expanding its Washington-Philadelphia service effective July 21, 2010. A stop in Baltimore (presumably White Marsh, hopefully I'm wrong) will also be added on this route.
DC to Pittsburgh is also coming soon - Mega is working to make Pittsburgh a transfer point for East Coast and Mid West (Chicago will also be starting trips to the Burgh)....This will really make Megabus become serious competition to greyhound.
