Hi,

so the Army called and turns out I have to report to Walter Reed on July 20 sooner then expected. I have a budget of 1600 a month (includes util) and I need a place to live. I have been looking at craigslist but have no idea what place would be right for me. I was thinking of either silver springs or adams morgan.

A little bit about me. I am 22 year old male, recent college grad and will be working at Walter reed. I am coming from the portland area. I am looking to live in a place that suits me. I like the alternative/hipster crowd not the rich yuppies but I want to be somewhere safe. I am looking for somewhere that is like seattle/pdx (coffee shops, cafes, people riding bikes, laid back etc) I know its cheaper to live outside the city but would it be worth it to live in a small place but be in the city? I am looking for a safe neighborhood, preferably young, easy to get to Walter reed via metro or car and fits my budget of 1600 a month. I will be here for two years and I am lookinf for excitment.

Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well if you live in Silver Spring, you could get to WRAMC on one of the S buses. They're a straight shot down 16th Street and run pretty frequently. It'd be cheaper than Adams Morgan, and Silver Spring has a downtown area with some nice bars, a great movie theater and some good eats. There's also a Metro station there that's on the same line as the Adams Morgan station, so you'd be a 25-30 minute train ride away.

AdMo (Adams Morgan) will have more young people, but it can be a bit dicey on the side streets. Not necessarily unsafe, you just gotta keep your guard up. It has more cafes and all that as well. It'd be a longer commute to WRAMC though.
