I've been in D.C. all 21 years of my life so my view of the city may be little different from newcomers or people who have lived her 4 years or less, just like most other natives, but this applies to almost every city in the country anyways. However D.C. can be a very exciting city for someone new or as never been here before. and yea there is plenty of things to do in the city and the suburbs. Outside of the national mall area D.C. looks just like any other big city in this country would and we have the second largest subway system in the country. I must say though, you'll either love D.C. or hate, depends o the person because while the city is great and all with its diversity, amenities, and so forth, the people, politics and overall atmosphere is another thing. Don't mean to discourage you though, thats just life in a city like this.

But you have like a budget range on what you'd spend on an apartment? The cost of living in this area is quite expensive, and housing prices vary on the neighborhood you look into. Like $1200-$1500 a month is about average for a one bedroom apartment in a decent part of the city. Also what type of work are you in? It'll probably be best to secure a job before you move here.
