Do higher income people use pubic transportation in the DMV area? Other than NYC, public transportation is mostly used by those who can't afford an automobile. Is DC the same as NYC in this instance?

Every income level uses mass transit in DC. Same is true in Chicago, San Fran, Boston, and most major Canadian cities.

The real question is if "the DC area metrobus transit service only used by lower income people?" People from every background uses the metrorail transit service, granted the lower income people use it slightly more. If you need proof, look at how crowded trains are during the morning rush hour coming from affleunt terminals like Vienna/Fairfax and Shady Grove, middle class and mixed income terminals like Franconia-Springfield, New Carrollton, Greenbelt, and Glenmont, and lower class terminals like Largo Town Center and Branch Ave. This is also seen in how crowded it is headed back to all of those terminals during the evening commute.

Not true at all that lower income people use it more. I think I saw that 70 or 80%(one of those numbers) of rail riders have a 4-year degree. 50% of bus riders have one.

Depends on the bus line but the ridership in Northern VA skews heavily working-class. I'll just speak from my own experience on the 16 bus line along Columbia Pike. I lived in a TH near Glebe and Columbia Pike, before Courthouse it was just like a Metro train. After Courthouse the bus would be about 60-70% full and I'd be the only white person on there. Never felt unsafe or anything.

I can only speak for my own experience. I'm upper middle class and frequently take metro. I'm a senior citizen and don't enjoy the hassle of driving into DC. I also take buses, but the ones I take are in northern Virginia. I personally feel comfortable on the metro and see people from all walks of life riding it.

Nah, all classes use them. It's cheaper. You know how much my co-workers spend on parking per year? $3,500. DC's one of handful of cities where you benefit from public transportation, whether you're lower income, middle class, etc.

Everyone uses the Metro in D.C.

Obviously not the "super rich" but everyone else.

Everyone uses the metro! Government workers, business people, tourists, students, EVERYONE. So it's always ridiculously crowded, but you'll see a mix of all people.
