I don't know about the rest of the stores, but the location on New York and Bladensburg seems to be a good fit. There is nothing there now, there is not much in the way of commerce near by, and there should be enough space to build a parking garage.
I don't know that I will shop at Wal-Mart all that much, but I like the idea of having more options.
There goes the neighborhood, small businesses can start closing and wages heading down.
Huh? Have you ever been to DC? Three of the four neighborhoods where Walmarts would be going to are severely underserved by any retailers.
What are the small businesses that are going to get hurt? The local convenience/grocery/liquor stores that are often the only retail available in many neighborhoods in NE and SE DC? Those store rarely hire local workers, and if they do they pay poor wages. They also gouge local residents with high prices because of the lack of competition. Plus, the owners of those stores mostly live in suburbs in MD or VA. Honestly, the locals really could care less if they close if they get a nearby Walmart or other type of big box store.
WalMart will need a security guard on every aisle!
Have you visited those areas before?
