Last time I used a metro card in DC. It kept taking away amounts on the card each time I swiped it. Well, I never ran into this problem but if I had rode it a couple more times I would have gone into a negative number. Is it still good? I paid for an all day pass but I was worried because I only had like .35 cents left even though I paid for a full day.
Yeah your good, the pass doesn't affect the value on your card.
Most of the hotels y'all naming are expensive as hell, especially in the spring months as tourist season goes into effect.
I'd say look at the Days Inn by Van Ness metro station. Affordable, safe, two blocks from subway station.
It's an indoor Days Inn too if that matters....
That Days Inn is more expensive than the other hotels mentioned in this thread.
Of course OP has to have reasonable expectations. You aren't going to find rural-Arkansas-roadside-motel rates in DC, on of the priciest cities in the country, in the middle of peak tourist season. Not in a good location anyway.
No more than $120 a night.
Anything above that is expensive, $150 at the most.
Paying $800+ for like a 5 day stay isn't exactly reasonable unless its located in the heart of the city.
IMO, $150 gets you a good hotel in a decent neighborhood. In peak season. $120 is not terrible. I've never seen anything less than $100 that wasn't seriously dodgy, unless you are talking about a youth hostel. You might be able to find something slightly cheaper using priceline or a similar service.
The above-mentioned Hyatt in Rosslyn, during May, is $239/night. The prices quoted above would be an off-peak rate, in late January for example. Not during peak season.
Note also, you typically are required to pay for a three-night stay when booking on a weekend.
I have made reservations at the Holiday Inn at Roslyn. I needed a hotel near a metro and one preferably walking distance to Georgetown. I spent a little more than I wanted to but I think I'll be happy with it.
