Hey Guys,

I'm sure this question gets asked alot, but I'm just looking for some help. I'm fresh out of college with a bachelors and I have a locked in job opportunity in the DC area. I'm looking to make a move from Orlando, Fl to DC.

I'm trying to get some research on some neighborhoods around the DC area, my rule is I would like no longer then a 90 min commute and spend no more then $1300 for a studio/1 bedroom. I have a vehicle but I've been told traffic is horrid, so I assume I'm gonna rely on the metro.

I was looking into places such as, alexandria and arlington. Safety is my number one concern and 2nd is being in a area with young professionals( or any place I'll be able to meet new friends)

Any help or insight of any kind will be greatly appreciated.

Petworth or Takoma.
Possibly Columbia Heights depending on the section.
Crime does happen in these areas but its relatively safe (for the most part).
Use common street smarts and you should be fine.
Do not walk around with expensive stuff like an ipod or android phone out in the open, especially at night it'll just make you a target.

Arlington and Alexandria are much safer, but also more expensive.

Where is your job located? That would make a big difference. There are many other threads discussing neighborhood safety and where yuppies live; take a look around.

I recommend $1500/month for a one-bedroom apartment if you want a more desirable area to live in.

There's a pretty convenient (but crowded) bus line that runs up and down Wisconsin Ave.. So if you're working in Georgetown, you could look into Glover Park/National Cathedral area (nice area, less expensive- not metro accessible), Tenleytown (AU), Friendship Heights, Bethesda. Also in NW (metro accessible) Woodley Park & Cleveland Park. Or, Rosslyn may be a good option on the Virginia side (you may be able to walk across the bridge to work, depending where you're working). Good luck!!

Yeah I agree $1300 is unfortunately on the low end of things in this area unless you are in the burbs away from the metro.
