I will be vacationing in DC during late August for 3-4 nights with my girlfriend. I'm looking for a good hotel in the high 3 star or 4 star range. Preferably in the city, but I'm also willing to stay in Northern Virginia. Arlington or Falls Church would work since I have family there. I would like to be in a somewhat urban downtown type area if possible close to a subway station to avoid renting a car.
I am on a budget so no Ritz Carlton or anything. I'm trying to impress my girlfriend and have a comfortable stay, but at the same time keep the price reasonable. Any good suggestions?
There are really just too many suggestions to list. Use one of the hotel search engines using your desired area and price range and then come back and ask us to choose between a few. IMHO, you'll have a much better time if you stay in the city or Alexandria/Arlington. Other places are too far from the majority of the tourist things you will want to see.
I like the River Inn in Foggy Bottom. It is walking distance to the Foggy Bottom Metro as well as to Dupont Circle and the western side of the downtown. It is on a side-street so your room will be very quiet, but you can walk to the Dupont nightlife.
I like AKA White House in downtown DC. Near the White House, and The National Mall. All suites!
