I agree for the most part. Maybe a yellow for Takoma and Shepherds park.
Is it really even possible to rank all of the neighborhoods based on any kind of consensus? What one person considers 'green' might be another person's 'yellow' or even 'red'. It all depends on what you're used to.
For one, I used to live in Columbia Heights. Someone listed this as possibly yellow. I would've called it green. I now live in Brentwood, a neighborhood someone else called red. But, I feel fairly safe here. I take 'normal precautions' when walking alone at night, etc, and I've never had a problem. And really, in my opinion, it feels more like a community here than it did in Columbia Heights. People here say hello to each other on the street like neighbors. You don't get that in many neighborhoods, even some of the 'safer' neighborhoods. Now, what we do lack is amenities like stores and restaurants. But, even that seems to be changing, what with Rhode Island Row opening up soon and new stores moving in further up Rhode Island Ave.
So, all this to say, ranking is a very subjective thing. And nothing beats taking an hour or two and walking through a prospective neighborhood to get your own feel for the place.
