There has been many discussion in here on exactly how safe certain neighborhoods are...like where are the worst ghettos in DC. Let's answer the safety question once and for all by categorizing all the neighborhoods in DC as of 2012 in one of three potential categories...

Green - safe during day and reasonably safe (with normal precautions) at night

Yellow - Borderline (you can us a ^ if this neighborhood is on the upswing)

Red - Bad, we all know what is meant by this.

Feel free to use "green-yellow, yellow-red or bright red if you want to be more specific.

Pretty sure Navy Yard is too far down your list if safety is a factor. I remember looking at a crime map and saw less violent crime around there than Eastern Market/Capitol Hill.

And by all accounts, can't you rate Hillcrest as... green?

Also I think I'd put Washington Highlands down as red.

Edgewood and Brentwood definitely get "red" from me. The apartment complex at Saratoga and Montana no doubt contributes to the red rating for the latter nabe.
