I will be traveling with someone who does not do public transportation and there is no changing minds on that.

How much of a mess will that be? Price wise what would it be for 2-3 people? Would Super Shuttle be better? (We'll arrive mid-afternoon on the 20th and leave before 7am on the 22)

Any pointers are great. The hotel we will stay at is by national mall (southern part...not involving Pennsylvanian avenue).

Luckily you are arriving on a Sunday so traffic should be light.

Leave way before 7 am on the Tuesday. With rush hour traffic that taxi fare will go way way up. And the DC area has by some accounts the worst traffic congestion in the nation.

Baltimore to DC is going to be $100-125 in cab fare.

Really anytime between 6 am and 9 am on a weekday there is potential for massive rush hour delays on the highways around DC. I'm not saying a traffic jam is guaranteed, just very very possible. And if the cab gets stuck in traffic that fare meter is just going to keep on running even as you're not moving.

It's really too bad your friend is for some weird reason against public transportation. The MARC train from DC to BWI airport is only $6 a ticket one way, and it only takes about half an hour and obviously doesn't get stuck in traffic. It's a drastically cheaper and more convenient option to get to the airport compared to a cab.

MARC only runs on weekdays so it is not an option for your arrival.

would it be futile to try to convince your friend that saving at least 100 dollars in fares is worth having to travel with the unwashed masses?

For starters finding a regular cabbie that would want to go on a long trip like that would be extremely difficult. I think it will cost at least $200 each way since the cabbie will mostly likely charge you double since he would not have a fair on the trip back. You could just rent a car for $40 a day instead.

So if the cabs won't go I'd be better off going the shuttle route right?

The lady who won't ride it is scared of getting lost or stuck so it is hard to convince her.

You're way way more likely to get stuck in traffic in the shuttle than you are to get stuck on the train. I don't even know how that would work.

You also can't get lost on the train. You get on the train, you get off at the airport stop. It's really really simple and easy.

It's a lot simpler than getting on a plane, and your lady doesn't seem afraid of that.

I mean "stuck" as in clostrrphobic with a lot of people. Reguardless, i thought the direct train didn't run on weekends??

She was pretty firm on the "no" but I can try again.

The shuttle would be flat rate so that would not matter if we sat in traffic I suppose?
