I was recently offered a great-paying administrative job at a large law firm in the West Side. Not naming names just yet, but I'm curious as to what the culture is like before I accept/decline the offer? Glassdoor.com gives negative reviews but they are at least 2 years old and there are only 3 of them. If you have any experience with law firms in DC, could you direct message me so we can discuss it?
"Culture" at a large law firm? Probably a healthy mix of alcoholism, exhaustion and rampant competition. Then again, that probably applies more to the attorneys than the administrative staff.
Most law firms are very high energy, workoholic places. That can be very exhilarating or a total burnout depending on your nature. Be prepared to spend a lot of hours at the firm and work hard. These aren't 9-5 jobs.
This shouldn't be a surprise, but the "culture" completely demands on who you report to and how they treat you. Every firm, even those on the best places to work for lists, have partners and associates that abuse and overwork their support staff, and those that treat them like gold. My guess is if they are hiring with good pay, it is the former.
