Hi,

I'm looking for a coffee shop to have a short meeting with a potential wedding planner. I'm looking for somewhere near the blue/orange line near Capitol Hill (Eastern Market, Capitol South, Potomac Ave) but also has parking nearby. I'm thinking a coffee shop or casual restaurant where we can just order a coffee and sit for a half hour and discuss plans. There will be three of us. I first thought of 8th St but I don't think Spring Mil has many tables and the Starbucks is always crowded. Any suggestions on a good location?

Port City Java at 7th and North Carolina SE, right across from the Eastern Market, has tables and seems pretty nice. But when you say you need a place that has parking, do you realize that very very few businesses on Capitol Hill have their own parking for customers? The area is just way too dense for there to be many parking lots. You will have to search for a spot on the street.

Stateofnature -- Yeah, I do. I don't mean there needs to be reserved parking for customers, just that it's not almost impossible to find a spot. The thing with 8th st is that there is a big metered parking lot near the marine barracks so it's fairly easy to find a place to park. I'm metro-ing but the planner is driving and I don't want her to have a difficult time.

Port City sounds like a good option, thanks!

Port City is rarely all that crowded on weekdays, and parking is a bit easier on North Carolina Ave. than on Pennsylvania. There's also Le Pain Quotidien, which although busy almost always has a table, Pound around the corner on Penn, and Peregrine (also always packed).

The next nearest options would be Lot 38 near Navy Yard or Sidamo on H, but that's straying a fair distance from the Blue/Orange lines.

Keep in mind that the area gets crazy busy on weekends with the flea/farmers market.

Doesn't the Eastern Market have metered parking? I've only ever taken the metro there, but I think it does.

Pound the Hill is also pretty solid, although it's strictly street parking. I'd suggest Peregrine, but it's probably not going to work until the weather gets warmer and you can sit outside.

We met with the planner at Port City Java last weekend. It was in the absolute worst place for parking. There are a few tables but not many. Luckily we were able to snag one even though the shop was packed. The service wasn't great. I wouldn't go back again.

If you thought that was the "absolute worst" for parking you must not drive in DC much. Capitol Hill is easy for street parking compared to many other neighborhoods, like downtown, Dupont, Logan Circle, Adams Morgan, etc.

If you were able to find a spot within about 10 minutes of searching in a five minute walk or less from your destination then you did pretty well for DC.
