Rather than waiting for the Blue Line it is usually faster to take the Yellow Line from the airport because it is a more straight shot to the Mall, rather than going all the way through Arlington and Foggy Bottom and downtown on the Blue Line. L'Enfant Plaza and Archives stops on the Yellow are right by the Mall, or you can transfer at L'Enfant and go just one stop to Smithsonian.
You don't have to take our word for it, Google Maps will tell you in five seconds exactly how to get to where you are going from the airport on the Metro.
If you're still going from Dulles, I'd recommend taking the Washington Flyer shuttle from the airport to the Falls Church metro. Then hopping on the metro to the city.
If you're flying in to National, I recommend taking a cab. It will cost you around $20. You could also take the metro from National and switch to the orange or blue line at L'enfant to get to the Hill...but I think it's much easier to just take a cab if you're not familiar with taking the metro.
If you like Impressionist Art, the National Gallery is doing an exhibit on Degas and Cassat, exploring how their personal relationship affected the evolution of their art.
I just found out I will be staying at the Helix. Has anyone stayed here before, what are your thoughts?
Can someone recommend some good places for dinner nearby. Nothing to fancy, I'd like a more relaxed atmosphere. My company budgets $35 for dinner so nothing too expensive either.
Is taking the subway an option for this hotel, it looks to be a decent distance way from the closest stop.
Havent been to or stayed at the Helix, but it appears to be a Kimpton hotel - usually you cannot go wrong with those.
Location is Logan Circle, which is pretty a pretty sweet location in terms of walkability to bars, restaurants etc. Also puts you close to the U street corridor, where there are a ton more dining and bar options.
DC is known for its Ethiopian restaurants - I would recommend checking out Dukem or Selam. I prefer the latter. Delicious food, very relaxed atmosphere.
A lot of the restaurants around Logan Circle tend to be high-end, but the Logan Tavern is a pretty good option well within your price point and not too uppity or stuffy
I don't mean to be "that guy," but it's "Capitol" Hill.
