We're looking for a painter and/or painting company to do a house in upper NW DC. We'd like someone with a good reputation who will do the painting themselves (and a staff). We are avoiding any company or individual who sells the service, but never shows up to actually do the work: historically, the paint jobs are lacking when a responsible supervisor is not present.

Thanks for your input.

No specific company, rather a suggestion: Drive around the neighborhood and find a house that's been recently painted and ask the owner who did it. Nothing like talking candidly with the owner. Btw, you may be out of paint season for several months due to weather, but when you do find someone, see if you can look them up with town services (city hall?) to see if they've had any complaints filed against them. I did this (another state) and found one company I was considering. The complaint was for poor workmanship! I've also found that the high end paint stores may know some names that they would pass on to you.

The following gentleman works at George Mason in the paint shop. He was painting the walls outside of my office and I commented to him that I wished I could bring him to my apt. and have him do my walls. He produced his business card. I can not vouch for him other than to say he was very nice and the walls in the hallway look nice - also, he and the people he worked with (not sure if they work with him outside GMU) were very efficient and didn't lolygaggle around. His card says he does painting, plastering and drywall.

I had my whole house painted (inside) recently. These guys did an exceptional job, plus they cleaned up everyday which was a plus.
