Hi,

We are possibly considering a move from boston area to DC area... My job would be in Baltimore and my husband's would be in Reston, VA if we moved. Does that even make sense in Tera of where to live/commute? We want a reasonable commute for both of us. Which in between area would make sense? Also, how are the summers in DC compared to boston? I know winters are milder but how about summer? Thanks.

The best compromise would still be a considerable commute for both of you

What is a considerable commute? Right now our respective commutes on boston are 45 minutes...

It just strikes me odd to be commuting from VA to Baltimore. They are two separate metro areas. You literally have to pass all of Washington DC and then some. And DC traffic is much worse than Boston. I would say an hour easy to Baltimore in rush hour.

I mean, I know someone who commutes from West Virginia to DC several times a week, but it's several hours each way.

So your arrangement would be doable. Probably a central location is Rockville MD.

But I would try to find both jobs in either the Baltimore/Towson metro area or the DC metro area.

No I am looking for a place between both areas. Reston Va and Baltimore. I'm not commuting from VA to Baltimore. If we moved out jobs would be in those respective cities so wondering if it even makes any sense.

Also, for Rockville MD to either city (Baltimore or reston) would you have to go through DC?

You need to move in a place between those areas? What are you talking about? If he's commuting to Baltimore and you're going all the way to Reston you would want a central location so one of you is not having a 2 hour commute.

No, but at least one of you (your husband ) would have to get on the DC Beltway - and the DC beltway at rush hour is hell on earth.

The commute from Rockville to Baltimore is possible without getting on the beltway, but it's long.

Your husband should find a job in Baltimore - much better area.

Yes, that is what I'm saying. I want a central location. I'm not familiar with the area which is why I'm asking if it's feasible or not. My husband can transfer to his company in reston, mans I have an interview in Baltimore so I am wondering if the interview worth pursuing. If there is no mid point where commute is reasonable for both of us, I won't pursue MD interview...

Silver Spring, maybe? Still around an hour+ commute for both of you.
