I am looking for buying a used car. I found something interesting in VA that passed VA inspection this month. I tested the car and it looks running ok. I asked the owner what would happen if I buy it from him and I do not pass DC inspection. He told me, it will be my problem. Thus, I am not sure if I should go ahead with the car.
Do you think if a car is VA inspected will have problems to pass DC emission inspection?
If it passes VA or MD inspection it will probably pass DC inspection. I don't think you'll have a problem. I bought my last two cars out of state and I didn't have any issues.
I asked him and he said I am selling you the car. It is not my responsibility to do that if you don't pass DC inspection, it will be your problem. It is a owner not a dealer. That's why I am hesitating...
sounds suspicious. This is a good example of information asymmetry - he knows much more than you do, and does not want to help. How old is the car? what kind of shape? What's the seller like?
